Design accessible pedestrian routes

Ensuring smooth and unobstructed access is crucial to the safety and comfort of all users, including people with mobility challenges. Parks should be designed with pathways that adhere to universal accessibility standards.

  • Ensure that pathways always allow two-way traffic to encourage informal surveillance.
  • Itineraries should always lead to an exit for safety.
  • Provide more access or exit points along the route.
  • Paths should have no projections or steps.
  • Ensure a minimum passage height of 220 cm.
  • Use continuous, non-slip pavements for stable, safe pedestrian traffic.
  • Provide a free passage width greater than 180 cm.
  • Maintain a maximum transverse slope of 2% and a longitudinal slope of 6%.
