Facilitate Transitions and Waiting Times

For children, especially those with autism, transitioning between activities or waiting for play elements can be challenging. Designing tools to ease transitions reduces stress and promotes independence.

  • Introduce clear pathways leading to and from play areas, marked with sensory cues.
  • Add visual aids, like large sand timers or “waiting rules” signs, to explain waiting protocols.
  • Provide active waiting activities, such as small sensory games, near high-demand equipment.
  • Include calming games or sensory features near entrances and exits to ease transitions.
