Signage and lighting elements

Thoughtful arrangement of signage and lighting is vital for preserving safety and accessibility in pedestrian zones. By reducing visual clutter and ensuring clear walkways, cities can minimize accident risks and foster more welcoming, well-lit environments.

  • Cluster signage and lighting on as few supports as possible to avoid overcrowding sidewalks with poles or structures.
  • Position these supports along the outer edge of the sidewalk (banda exterior de la acera), ensuring a free pedestrian passage.
  • When there isn’t enough space beside the accessible pedestrian route, attach signage and lighting to the adjacent building facade.
  • Keep the lower edge of any facade-mounted element at a minimum height of 2.20 m to prevent collisions and maintain sufficient headroom.
